Home » THE ROHINGYAS – VICTIMS OR TERRORISTS
In an ongoing hearing on Deportation of Rohingyas in Supreme Court on 18 Sep, the Centre has given an affidavit on Rohingya Terror activities saying that:
“There is an organised network of touts operating in Myanmar and West Bengal and Tripura to facilitate illegal Rohingya influx. Organised Rohingya Muslim influx started in 2012 and their number is around 40,000 now”.
Some Rohingya Muslims have links with Pakistan’s ISI as well as the Islamic State, Centre says to SC.
Howeve,r the militant wing of Rohingya’s Movement the ARSA (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army) has issued a statement through Twitter, claiming that it has no affiliation with al-Qaeda, ISIS,
Lashkar-e-Taiba or any other transnational terrorist group. The statement went on to claim that the group does not welcome the involvement of these groups in the Rakhine conflict, calling on the States to intercept and prevent such elements from entering Rakhine. It would be unrealistic to accept this statement at face value. There have been many indicators to suggest its nefarious linkages with the same groups. The Intelligence Agencies have established fool proof evidence of ARSA’s involvement in terrorist activities.
1.There is evidence to show that ARSA emerged from Harkat ul Jihad Islami Arakan (HUJI-A), which is Pak based and espouses the Rohingya Muslim cause. It is headed by Abdus Qadoos Burmi, a Pak National of Rohingya origin and who is closely associated with Hafiz Saeed.
2.ARSA leader, Hafiz Tohar was recruited by Burmi from Muangdaw and trained in Pak. Thereafter, he trained Rohingyas from the refugee camps from Cox’s bazar.
3.The role of Pak based groups was revealed during an IED blast at Buthidaung on 04 May this year. It was revealed during investigations that 2 out of the 4 killed in the blast were Pakistanis and the other two, Rohingyas.
4.Regular movements of Maulana Ustad Wazeer and Fareed Faizullah, both Pakistani nationals with Rohingya origin, to the borders of Thailand to get cadres recruited and indoctrinated have been noted by Intelligence agencies.
5.In May 2016, Omar Faruk of the LET backed Rohingya Solidarity Organisation was arrested from Chittagong for attacking the Bangladesh ANSAR camp at Teknaf, looting weapons and killing the commander there.
6.LET had organised Difa-e-Musalman-e-Arakan conference in Pak in Jul 2012 to highlight the Rohingya cause.
7.Later, LET senior operatives Shaheed Mehmood and Nadeem Awan visited Bangladesh to recruit Rohingyas and train them.
8.Several new front organisations such as Jamaat ul Arakan and Difa-e-Musalman-e-Arakan have been formed with the help of Pak jihadists to co-ordinate the militant network along the Myanmar border with Bangladesh and Thailand.
