Home » HAFIZ SAEED- STRATEGIC ASSET OF PAKISTAN
30 Nov 2017/Thursday.
The release of Hafiz Saeed was celebrated in Pakistan as a befitting reply to hostile US policies. The farce of Saeed’s detention was a well-known fact right from the beginning and was done by Pakistan under international pressure in to avoid its complete isolation. This is a clear-cut message to US and the world that Pakistan will not compromise with its national interests no matter how heavy the price it pays for acting against the established world opinion. US Army General John Nicholson, Commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, is on record to admit that – he hasn’t seen a change in Pakistan’s support for militants, despite Trump’s tougher line against Islamabad.
Pakistan has openly articulated the concept of good terror and bad terror as an important instrument of its state policy against India. While Good Terrorists help Pakistan to fight a proxy war and meant for use against hostile or enemy countries, the Bad Terrorists are to be eliminated for so called War on Terror (WOT). It treats Good Terrorist as its Strategic Assets- in short proxies. These proxies provide Pakistani Army a shield to hide behind, without directly confronting the mighty Indian Army. In other words, Bleeding India with Thousand Cuts without being actively involved. Pakistan’s ex-President General Parvez Musharraf in recent interview to ARY TV has accepted harbouring terrorist organisation as a state policy to engage their hostile neighbours. Pakistan has long been accused of covertly supporting outfits that strike Afghanistan and India. Having fought multiple wars with India, Pakistan’s security establishment fears domination by its arch-rival and having a stable pro-Indian administration in Afghanistan.
Now Pakistan has successfully reduced its dependence on US by aligning strongly with China even at the cost of its sovereignty. Pakistan’s insistent pressure on China for vetoing Masood Azhar being declared as global terrorist by the UN is a strong signal to the world that Pakistan will protect its strategic assets fiercely, aimed against India.
The US escalated its criticism of Pakistan, after Lahore High Court ordered the release of Saeed from house arrest. India and the US have accused Saeed of masterminding the 2008 Mumbai attacks and claim he is the leader of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, charges Saeed denies. The White House warning that his release may damage bilateral relations has been totally ignored by Pakistan.
Pak PM Abbasi said
“The court, a three-judge bench, has released him saying there are no charges against him, the country has a law you know,”.
“Prosecute him internationally if there is substance to these charges — these are accusations only.
The whole drama of release of Saeed has ended with a clear message that Saeed is an “Important Strategic Asset” for Pakistan against US push to India into Afghanistan and Kashmir.
A former White House and State Department official sums up the whole drama of release of Hafiz Saeed-
“Why would the Pakistan military allow for the imprisonment of one of its most influential proxies against India when it needs it the most?”
