French President Emmanuel Macron’s denunciations of political Radical Islam following the decapitation of teacher Samuel Paty on October 16 have led to furious demonstrations in parts of the Islamic world. A number of violent incidents of Islamist terrorism have followed, including the murder of three people in a church in Nice, by a recent Tunisian immigrant to France.
It seems likely, that the terrorist attack in Vienna on November 2, in which four people died, was also related to the mood of fury among sections of European and global Islamic opinion related to the depiction of images of the prophet.
This is while Al Qaeda, ISIS and Salafi Islam is not in the picture to further Radical Islam, the same mantle is taken over by quasi-legally elected governments of Pakistan and Turkey, to the horror of the World, much like the Taliban two decades back.
FATF Gauntlet Notwithstanding
The virtual plenary of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), held on October 21-23, insisted on Pakistan’s continuation on its grey list, after a thorough review of Islamabad’s dismal performance in fulfilling the global commitments and value, in the fight against money laundering and related terror financing.
The FATF had given Pakistan a total of 27 action plan compulsions for erasing the state-sponsored terror financing infrastructure, of which so far it has cleared 21 but has failed in the key tasks.
The mandates which Pakistan has failed include action against all UN-designated terrorists like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Azhar, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Saeed, and the outfit’s operational commander ZakiurRehmanLakhvi.
Sorry, We Misplaced Masood Azahar!
Will Hafiz Saeed also be Missing, just like Osama Bin Laden was
In September 2019, Pakistan informed global terror financing watchdog Financial Action Task Force (FATF) that Masood Azhar, founder of terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and his family are “missing.”
When Pakistan’s response to action initiated against U.N. designated terrorists was sought at a meeting in October last year, it “continued to state that Masood Azhar and his family were missing”.
Azhar was listed as a designated terrorist by the United Nations Security Council 1267 Committee on May 1, 2019. And as has been the Pakistani State’s long reluctant story of not acting on Global Terrorists, they simply find it convenient to lose them or hide them obscurely.
It also could not explain why terrorist financing investigations were not launched against Azhar, 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind Zaki-ur-RehmanLakhvi or the Haqqani leadership.
Perilous Hyper-Radical Land Pakistan
For Hindus, Christians, Ahmaddiyas, Shias, Balochis, Pashtuns…the mayhem list goes on unabated
It is no news, that all, other than the Sunni hardliners are all expendables for Pakistan Army and its Mullah Brigade, the former’s corruption and the latter’s maniacal political clout.
Ahmaddiyas, Shias, other Shia communities, Balochis, Sindhis, and Pashtuns, all have been repressed to wean away from their regional and cultural identities, and simply submit their identities to Radical Islam and be subservient to Army’s corruption landscape.
A new repression of educated and nationalist Pakistani has started, aimed at total annihilation of an educated voice and a sane social fabric.
In 2010, As Pakistan awaited the Supreme Court’s verdict on Aasia Bibi’s unjust conviction and death sentence in a blasphemy case, hardliners have started agitating both online and offline, increasing pressure on the authorities to uphold the sentence.
A not-so-cryptic tweet by Rizvi Media of Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLYR) read: “Think carefully before making any decision” reflects not lunacy, but a subsequently progressed mindset to accept sheer inhumanity and brutality. A definite direct threat, which is being justified all across the world as Islamophobia?
If you do not tolerate Radical Islam are you suffering from Islamophobia?
Sadly in Pakistan, the discourse under Blasphemy has been the charter under which Pakistan Army has given the Radical Islamists a free hand. The fate of those unjustly accused of blasphemy is reflective of this emblematic case, which created an environment of fear and hostility for Pakistanis especially those who adhere to religions other than hard-line Sunni Islam.
Since Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer’s killing in 2011, for taking a stand against Aasia Bibi’s arrest on blasphemy charges, came up a lot in the conversations of reality in Pakistan since. Many spoke about how unsafe minorities felt in Pakistan. If a governor could not be protected, then what of religious minorities, who are at a higher risk?
Since then, Radical Islam is the voice of Islam, and Pakistan Army is its protector, all human voices including educated, progressive, and nationalist, have been craftily sidelined by Pakistan Army.
Pakistan Turkey Radical Nexus
At the end of the day, the conversion, destruction, or rebuilding of places of worship all around the world are mostly driven by petty political interests of leaders who gain from religious radicalism. What they do with buildings that are places of worship is just an indicator of what they have already done to the societies.
To understand what Recep Tayyip Erdogan has done with Hagia Sophia and the way he is hell-bent on shredding Macron to pieces by his verbal long-range Artillery, one only wonders, how he is on the same path as Pakistan, ultra radicalizing his own country, much like Zia-Ul-Haq, the architect of the destruction of the fabric of Pakistani society.
Famously Imran Khan at the UNGA in 2019 said “There is no such thing as radical Islam”.
When the Black Lives Movement took sway over American streets, Turkey and Pakistan supported the movement wholeheartedly. Pakistani citizens were moved enough to share social media posts with hashtags, however, the hold of media discourse of condemning Brutal Murder to preserve freedom of expression was considered Islamophobic, despite logic stating otherwise.
The same vocal community stayed silent over the issue. There seems to be a hesitation to condemn these atrocities with the same aggression as seen when confronting instances while involving other religious identities like Ahmaddiyas, Shias, or anyone other than Radical Islamists. This reservation is hard to explain and runs against values that ostensibly claim to place human dignity at the centre of its ideology.
This is the state, a Radical Blasphemy-fearing Pakistani society has been reduced to, inhuman and immoral, all kudos to its political leadership. Though it can be argued, it is a Government-Select, run by the Pakistan Army, what excuse will Turkey’s citizens give to their future generations, when a similar Radical blasphemy-fearing society will be in place in Turkey. Erdogan will not be there available, to take the blame, just as there is no Zia-Ul-Haq to see the rot, he deliberately subjected Pakistan to, to result in a primitive, radical, bloodthirsty, anarchic semblance of hell, that Pakistan is now.
Five days ago, The mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and chief of Jama’at-ud-Da’wah, Hafiz Saeed identified by the U.S as a “global terrorist”, with the US putting a $10 million bounty on his head, along with his two aides Zafar Iqbal and Yahya Mujahid, has been sentenced to 10 years in two terror cases by a court in Pakistan.
Is it not highly likely that he may also be found “misplaced” by Pakistan Army, very soon, when the sword of FATF is off their neck?
