DANGERS OF LETTING OFF HAFIZ MUHAMMAD SAEED

It seems to be celebration time in the party camp of Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, a proclaimed global terrorist, as his two organizations, the Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) and Falah-i-Insaniyat Foundation (FIF) have been let off the hook by the Pakistan Government. They no longer fall into the category of banned outfits.

The Pakistan government had banned JuD and FIF, in January this year, who was on the UNSC sanctions list for collecting donations from companies and individuals. Though the Pakistan govt denied that their this action is free from any pressure from America but it certainly came after President Donald Trump had accused Islamabad of giving nothing to the US but ‘lies and deceit’ and providing ‘safe haven’ to terrorists. It is also known to the world that the Trump, since the day he became US President, has been breathing down the neck of Pakistan to do something more visible to rein in these rogue outfits. So, banning of these organizations by the President of Pakistan was certainly not an indigenous initiative.

Now, failing to renew UN resolution by which the ban was effected, has resulted in Islamabad High Court lifting the ban and hence JuD and FIF headed by Hafiz Mohammad Saeed are no more on the list of banned outfits after the presidential ordinance that proscribed them under a UN resolution lapsed. It has happened as the PTI government did not extend the ordinance or table it in parliament to convert it into an act. This clearly gives out the thought process of Imran Khan and the PTI govt towards the terror and the terrorists.

Co-founder of the terror organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, Saeed has been named as the mastermind of 2008 Mumbai attack in which 166 people were killed including few Americans. His role in Kashmir to carry out terror activities needs no proof as he openly claims that in a video. Also for years, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, one of the most-wanted militant leaders in South Asia, has lived in the open in Pakistan despite a $10 million American bounty on his head. He has always mocked efforts by the United States to capture him by leading large public gatherings in Lahore, Pakistan’s second-largest city. And now the latest decision by Pakistan Govt to delist JuD and FIF from the banned list will further help him in indulging in terror-related activities thereby undermining the Imran Khan’s agenda of acting tough against the people and organizations involved in terror activities within Pakistan or outside Pakistan.
