A mother broke into tears and cried, “I don’t want an anti-national (traitor) son. It is better to be without children.”
Qamer Uzzaman, a youth from Assam, is reported to have joined Hizbul Mujahideen in Jammu and Kashmir. His mother said that if her son has joined an anti-national militant organisation, he should be shot dead by the security forces. She said she never wanted her son to be a traitor.
Admitting that Qamer Uzzaman who went to Kashmir a few years back and started a business was missing for last one year, the mother of 39-years old Qamer Uzzaman told reporters, “We have not been able to contact him since July 2017. If he has joined anti-national activities, he should be killed. I am ready to give this in writing to the government. It is better not to have a son than a militant at home.” She also told the police that it was indeed her son in the photograph. “He has become thinner,” she told the Assam police. In the past also a mother was deprived of her child in Kashmir which resulted in a large negative sentiment in Kashmir. After the negative publicity, Lashkar leadership allowed Majid Arshid Khan to go back home.
The incident of Qamer Uzzaman alias Qamruddin joining Hizbul Mujahideen came to light recently in intercepts and from social media. Security agencies have also referred to the photograph of the youth with AK-47 rifles, which went viral on the social media. Home ministry wrote a letter to the Assam Police asking to verify the credential of the person who is being reported to have been missing in Kashmir for last one year.
The family members have identified the youth who hails from Jamunamukh in Hojai district of central Assam. The security sources, however, said that they are yet to ascertain if Qamer Uzzaman has really joined Hizbul or these viral photographs are fake.
Qamer Uzzaman was like any other youth of the country:
- He did his MA in English.
- He also worked in America from 2008 to 2012
- He was living with his wife and children in Kashmir until April 2017
Before he went missing from Kashmir he sent his wife and children back to Assam.
What happened with Qamer Uzzaman?
It seems he was contacted while he was in the US and radicalized into a traitor/terrorist. He was further trained when he was in Kashmir before plunging into the dark side without permission from his parents. Intelligence sources pointed out that Qamer Uzzaman was also in Bangladesh for some time, and security agencies have started probing that angle. The family members claimed that they have also lodged an FIR with J&K Police as well as Assam Police in which they had requested them to find out the whereabouts of their son as his wife and children were suffering due to his absence.
The residents of Jamunamukh who knew Qamer Uzzaman said that at least five-six youths from their areas have gone to Kashmir in search of jobs. Majority of them are in touch with their family members. The residents requested agencies to check the credential of these youths also. They were apprehensive that any of them could turn out to be a traitor.
DGP Mukesh Sahay told the media that Assam police is in constant touch with J&K police and that they were conducting a joint investigation. The police also said that Qamer Uzzaman’s brother Mufidul also wanted his brother to be shot dead because of his anti-national activities. The last time he visited his home in Jamunamukh was to drop his wife and child in 2017.
Meanwhile, Hizbul Muzahiddin has started propaganda that it has far-reaching following trying to baffle Indian Security establishment. They managed to convince a simple son who is earning an honest living into taking up arms for a wrong cause without the permission from his parents. This is again un-Islamic as no child can take up Jihad without the consent of his parents. No Muslim can take up arms when no one is threatening his religion. When no one is threatening him at his home it has to be seen as to Hizbul Mujahiddin justifying his taking up arms to Allah who is seeing everything. We have to understand as to why a mother is not wanting his son dead instead of fighting this wrongful un-Islamic war. Islam states that “Those who disobey those in authority disobey Allay”
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ وَأُولِي الْأَمْرِ مِنكُمْ
Now which religion is Hizbul Mujahidin is following if not Islam.
By the time this article was being written no statement from Hizbul spokesperson was received. It seems the Hizbul leader is still taking his time to send his reaction to the recent developments.
