Air Marshal (Retd) Asghar Khan the first native Commander in Chief of the Pakistan Air Force, a politician, aviation historian and a peace activist has on various occasions called for normalization of Indo-Pakistan relations. He has repeatedly renounced the nuclear tests operations conducted by Pakistan and in all his interviews he holds Pakistan responsible for irking India to warfronts clearly bringing out that India doesn’t want war and it is a peace loving nation. Excerpts from one of his interviews are given as under:
“In the last over 60 years, India has never attacked Pakistan they have only acted upon when their territory was breached by Pakistan. We are made to believe India would invade us someday which is incorrect. It is us who tried to invade them four times be it in 1947, 1965, 1971 or Kargil war in 1999 but couldn’t succeed instead suffered heavy casualties. Rather than becoming pawns of China and USA we must focus on building a strong educated society which will help us stabilize.
Time and again, India has risked the lives of its soldiers in peacekeeping efforts, not for any strategic gain, but in the service of an ideal. India’s ideal was, and remains, strengthening the world body, and international peace and security. Indian troops have taken part in some of the most difficult operations, and have suffered own casualties. Irony of the fact is that, India’s adversaries (Pak veterans) have also acknowledged India’s tolerant and peace loving nature, but act otherwise.
