The candlelight march started at Rajouri as people started coming out to pay their tributes to the hero. The young Kashmiri officer was murdered by suspected Hizbul militants on Wednesday. A whole civil society who participated in the event said the country has lost a role model.
Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz, an apple farmer’s son, had completed five months in the service. The officer of the 2nd battalion of the Rajputana Rifles had taken leave to go home to the troubled Kulgam town in south Kashmir to attend the wedding. He was posted with the Rajputana Rifles in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
A hockey and volleyball player, Ummer Fayaz had graduated from the National Defence Academy and was expected to go for the Young Officers’ Course in September.
